BELLEVUE, Iowa – Betty A. Jacobs, 97, of Bellevue, Iowa, formerly of Mendota, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at Lincolnshire Place in Loves Park, after a long battle with dementia.

There will be a private family celebration of life to be held at a later date.

Betty was born on Sept. 3, 1926, in Harristown, Ill., the daughter of Dee and Ida Hallett. Betty married Ernest C. “Jack” Jacobs, her beloved husband, on Sept. 18, 1944, enjoying a wonderful 76 years of marriage.

She is survived by children, Scott Jacobs, Marlene (Gerald) Virgil, and Jackalyn (Thomas) Switzer; grandchildren, Michelle Allen, Melynda Maurer, Quinn Virgil, and Lance Jacobs; great-grandchildren, Jackson and Kinley Merchant, Ella Allen, Hannah and Noah Maurer, Abbi Virgil, and Lucia Jacobs. 

Betty was predeceased by her parents Dee and Ida Hallett; husband Jack; sisters Joyce and June; brothers Rex and Bob; and grandparents.  The family finds comfort knowing “Jack” and Betty (aka “Mimi and Papa”) are together again, as they were always meant to be.

Betty worked as an assembly technician for Marathon electric.  Throughout her many years, Betty enjoyed spending time with Jack and their family, with endless energy for golf, fishing, crafting, playing countless board games, family softball games with grandchildren and great-grandchildren (well into their mid-70s) and cooking many special recipes (“secret” ham salad, macaroni and cheese corn casserole, and the best cherry pies).  She also had an affinity for shopping with a keen fashion sense and touch of “glitz,” a few favorite “naughty” words, a special sense of humor, and many special attributes that are impossible to capture.
