MENDOTA - Arlene C. Schmidt, 87, of Mendota passed away December 6, 2020 in Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center, Franklin Grove.

A public graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 9 at Restland Memorial Gardens with Rev. Mary Bohall officiating. Social distancing will be observed and masks encouraged. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, Chris Happ, Jake Walter, Michael Happ, Emily Boehringer, Megan Schmidt and Sarah Ramirez. Wasmer Funeral Home is privileged to be assisting the family.

Arlene was born Oct. 7, 1933 in LaSalle to Nelson and Myrtle (Roe) Crane.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Joe) Happ of Mendota and Cathy (Chris) Walter Faletto of Mendota; one son, Bob Schmidt of Ottawa; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Janell) Happ, Jacob (Elizabeth) Walter, Cory (Jenae) Walter, Megan Schmidt, Emily (Billy) Boehringer, Sarah (Edgar) Ramirez, and Michael Happ; five great-grandchildren, Henry, Morgan and William Happ, J.R. Walter, and Addie Boehringer; one sister, Jean Brueggeman of Menomonee Falls, Wis.; and one sister-in-law, Marian Crane of Mendota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a great-grandson, Ayden Walter; three brothers, Harold Crane, Nelson Crane Jr. and Gilbert Crane; and three sisters, Margaret Vavra, Dorothy Raasch and Roberta Greyer.

Arlene graduated from Mendota High School in 1951. During her work career, she was employed as a secretary bookkeeper for Prescott Brothers and Mendota Farmer’s Coop. She was involved in many organizations through her life including a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Jr. Women’s Club, Mendota Kanteen, Alice Circle, Campfire Girls, Mendota Golf Club, and Mendota Elks Lodge 1212. She also volunteered as a Tri County Fair Superintendent, a Cub Scout Leader, and for over 15 years was a “Pink Lady” at Mendota Community Hospital/OSF Saint Paul.
