LA SALLE COUNTY - The University of Illinois Extension Bureau, LaSalle and Marshall-Putnam 4-H is honoring the seniors of 2020. This week, they are highlighting Austin Passwater, a 4-H member of the Corn Belt Kids in LaSalle County.
Austin’s favorite 4-H project was woodworking. He said his favorite exhibit was a bowl that he made and noted that he was very proud to have received best of show on the bowl.
One of the main things Austin learned from 4-H was the importance of helping the younger members in the club and of being a good role model.
When asked to share his favorite memory in 4-H, he replied, “My favorite memory was driving a van in the demolition derby.”
His advice to younger 4-H members, “Enjoy every moment because it goes by way too fast.”
Austin’s future plans include attending IVCC in the fall.
4-H volunteers Kim Kaschke and Janell Lukach are the two people Austin wished to thank. “They are the best 4-H leaders any club could have,” he said. “We are a small club, we have accomplished an incredible amount in community service and state ribbon awards under their leadership. They also make sure we have fun in all that we do.”
