Trojans in Newman Regional; to host Oregon in play-in game

STERLING – The Mendota Trojans will compete in the Sterling Newman Class 2A Regional Baseball Tournament. The Trojans are the sixth seed in the sub-sectional.

The tournament will begin with a play-in game when Oregon visits Mendota on Monday, May 13. The first pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

The winner of that game will advance to the semifinal round to face second-seeded Sterling Newman at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 15 in Sterling. The other semifinal contest will pit Rock Falls against Pecatonica. The two winners will meet for the regional championship at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18.

The champion of the Newman Regional will move on to the Byron Sectional to battle the survivor of the Marengo Regional at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22. The other two sectional teams will come from the Port Byron Riverdale and Richmond-Burton regionals.

3 – (4) Rock Falls vs. (5) Pecatonica [Coop] – 4:30 p.m.

Saturday, May 18

4 – Winner Game 2 vs. Winner Game 3 – 10 a.m. (championship)
