Mendota's Elam takes first in 2 events; sets conference record in high jump

MENDOTA - Mendota hosted the Three Rivers Conference Girls’ Track & Field Meet on May 3.

Sherrard ran away with the team title with 156 points. Bureau Valley and Princeton were a distant second with 80.5 points apiece. The Lady Trojans finished ninth out of 13 teams with 34 points.

The highlight of the meet for Mendota came from freshman Mariyah Elam. She finished first in two events - the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump. In the high jump, Elam topped out with a measurement of 5-6.25, which was a personal best for her and also a conference record, erasing the old mark of 5-6. In the 100-meter hurdles, Elam cruised to the win with a time of 16.25.
