Mendota and Rock Falls played to overtime before the Rockets prevailed in the Colmone Classic on Dec. 11. Six days later, it was all Rock Falls as it cruised to a 59-40 triumph over the Trojans on Dec. 17 at the MHS gym.

Cold shooting plagued the Trojans throughout the contest. They trailed 16-12 after the first period, but then just scored 28 points over the final three quarters.

Rock Falls took a 27-12 lead to intermission, and then came out of the locker room with a 22-point third quarter performance to put the game out of reach.

Cole Tillman was the lone Trojan in double-digit scoring with 12 points. Grady Jones was next with seven markers.

A swarming Sycamore defense caused the Trojans fits in a 64-45 loss to the Spartans on Dec. 18 at the MHS gym.

Sycamore doubled teamed the ball and disrupted Mendota passes and shots, which allowed the Spartans to score the first 12 points of the game. The Trojans finally got on the board with two minutes left in the opening stanza.

Sycamore built an 18-7 lead after the first period and led 25-13 at the break. Mendota’s offense came to life in the third frame when it scored 21 points, 11 of which came from Dane Doyle in three three-pointers and a conventional hoop. But the Trojans could not dig into the Sycamore lead as the Spartans put 22 on the board in the third.

Mendota cut the deficit to 11 points on several occasions, but Sycamore pulled away late.

Doyle hit four shots from three-point land and finished with a team-high 20 points. Cole Tillman provided 11 tallies and Aden Tillman added seven.
