Mendota cruised to a 10-4 win over Plano in varsity baseball action on March 31 at the MHS diamond.
After Plano scored twice in the first inning, the Trojans quickly tied the game in the bottom of the first. Braiden Freeman singled and Brody Hartt doubled in the inning.
Mendota took the lead for good with three tallies in the bottom of the second. Hartt tripled for the Trojans’ only hit in the frame, while there were two walks, a hit batter and a sacrifice.
The Trojans added one run in the fourth on two walks, a sacrifice and a Plano error, and then put the game on ice with four runs in the sixth. Esten Otero and Oscar Castaneda both singled and Freeman laced a triple in the frame.
Freeman (two RBI) and Hartt (four RBI) each had two hits for Mendota.
Jack Gillespie was the starting pitcher for the Trojans and worked into the third, when Collin Coss took over. Coss was credited with the win.

The Trojan bats fell silent as they were no-hit by Bureau Valley in a 14-0 loss on April 1 at the MHS diamond. The game was stopped after five innings by the 10-run rule.
Storm pitcher Logan Philhower was in command from start to finish, allowing just one Trojan baserunner when he walked Rhett Watson with two outs in the second inning. Philhower struck out 12, including retiring the side on strikes in three of the five innings.
Four pitchers took the mound for the Trojans. Starter Dane Doyle was taken out in the second inning and was tagged with the loss.
Bureau Valley totaled nine hits and the Mendota defense committed six errors.

Mendota fell to LaSalle-Peru, 9-0, on April 3 at Peru.
The Cavaliers grabbed a 5-0 lead in the first for all the runs they needed.
The Trojans managed just three hits, including a pair of singles by Evan McPheeters.
Freeman got the start for Mendota and pitched into the fourth. He allowed five hits and seven runs (three earned).
