POPLAR GROVE – The Mendota Trojans began the season with a win at North Boone and ended it with a win at North Boone in the final game of the Big Northern Conference Tournament on March 9 at Poplar Grove.

Mendota concluded the abbreviated campaign with a 2-12 record.

The Trojans jumped out to a 14-5 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter and kept increasing the margin as the game went on. The count stood at 30-14 at intermission and 49-28 heading to the fourth frame.

Sophomores Krew Bond and Rafa Romero led the attack, with Bond knocking down four three-pointers on his way to a 21-point output. Romero provided 18 points and topped the team with 11 rebounds. Freshman Izaiah Nanez had a pair of three-pointers and finished with eight markers.

The tournament championship game was an all-Rockford affair with Lutheran shooting down Christian, 52-37, to finish the season with a 16-0 record. Other final-round games: 3rd place - Byron 53, Genoa-Kingston 36; 5th place - Stillman Valley 50, Dixon 48; 7th place - Winnebago 50, Rock Falls 32.
