PORT BYRON – Mendota’s sophomore boys’ basketball team pulled out a thrilling 72-70 overtime victory over Riverdale in Three Rivers Conference play on Dec. 22 at Port Byron.
The game was tight from start to finish with Mendota in front 16-14 after one quarter and 32-31 at the half. Riverdale forged in front by a point (47-46) heading to the fourth, but the Trojans were able to make that point up and send the game to overtime. Mendota outscored Riverdale, 9-7, in the extra session to notch the win.
Logan Dewey had a huge offensive night for the Trojans with 24 points to lead three Mendota players in double-figure scoring. Five of his tallies came in the crucial overtime period. Cale Strouss fired in six three-pointers on his way to a 20-point performance, while Kaleb Kleckner dropped in 15 markers.
