After a lengthy layoff, the Mendota Lady Trojans returned to the softball diamond and dropped both ends of a double-header at Kewanee on April 24.
In game one, the Lady Boilers claimed a 21-5 victory in a game that ended in the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule.
Kewanee had two huge innings, scoring nine runs in the second and eight in the fifth that halted the action.
Mendota’s scoring came in the fourth with three runs and the fifth with two runs.
In the fourth, Ava Eddy led off with a double and she moved to third on a single by Leah Henkel. Karson Doyle walked to load the bases with nobody out. After the next two Mendota batters were retired, Karissa Freeman walked to drive in a run, Sydney Tolley had an RBI single and Leah Schwemlein drew a bases loaded walk.
The Lady Trojan fifth started with a double by Eddy, a single by Henkel and a two-run single by Doyle.
Mendota had seven hits in the game, with Eddy and Henkel getting two apiece. Kewanee collected 14 hits off of two Mendota pitchers, Eddy and Freeman.
The nightcap went to Kewanee, 9-4.
Each team scored a run in the first, Mendota’s coming on an RBI single off the bat of Doyle.
The Lady Trojans went back in front with a three-run second inning. Charlee Dankenbring led off with a double. Two outs later, Schwemlein delivered a run-scoring single followed by an RBI double by Alexis Nave. Nave later raced home on a wild pitch.
That ended up being the last runs scored for the Lady Trojans, while Kewanee tallied eight runs over the final four frames.
Mendota’s nine-hit attack was led by Eddy with two singles and a double, while Nave singled and doubled.
Henkel went the distance in the circle for the Lady Trojans. Kewanee totaled 13 hits.

Orion rolled over Mendota, 22-1, on April 25 at Orion. The game was stopped in the fourth inning by the 10-run rule.
The Lady Trojans scored their only run in the first when Henkel singled and later scored on a single by Addison Perryman.
Orion scored three runs in the bottom of the inning, then plated seven in the second and 12 in the third.
Tolley, Freeman and Hayley Diaz pitched for Mendota.

Mendota was upended by Newman, 11-4, on April 28 at Sterling.
Trailing 2-0, the Lady Trojans scored once in the third when Nave singled and later scored on a Henkel single. Newman added two runs in the bottom of the third.
Mendota responded with a pair of tallies in the fourth. Freeman and Schwemlein had hits in the frame, with the latter driving in a run.
Newman padded its lead with three runs in the fourth and four in the sixth.
Mendota completed its scoring in the sixth on a single by Schwemlein and an RBI single by Henkel.
Henkel finished with three hits, while Perryman and Schwemlein had two each.
Eddy was in the circle for Mendota.
