Spikers split TRAC matches

The Mendota Spikers won two of five matches in the Reed-Custer Tournament on Sept. 25 at Braidwood.

Chicago DeLaSalle downed the Spikers 25-15, 25-18 in the opening match. Marah Setchell led Mendota with seven kills, Kya Delao had six assists and 10 digs, and Lauren Martin had 16 digs.

Mendota bounced back with a 25-14, 25-15 triumph over Elmwood Park. Meredith McConville collected six kills, Delao provided nine assists, and Lauren Martin and Elly Buettner had 15 and 12 digs, respectively.

Cissna Park needed three sets to down the Spikers 25-20, 23-25, 15-12. Reanna Brant topped the team with eight kills, Lauren Martin picked up 15 digs and Delao recorded 13 assists. Also, Buettner had three aces at the service line and Setchell put up three blocks.

Putnam County and Mendota also went the three-set limit and the Lady Panthers prevailed 18-25, 25-21, 15-9. Bailey Baird paced the Spikers with seven kills, while Delao had 18 assists and Lauren Martin totaled 20 digs.

Mendota claimed a 15-25, 25-9, 15-10 verdict over Reed-Custer in its final match of the day. Setchell and Brant led the way with eight kills apiece. Delao set up the offense with 15 assists, while Lauren Martin supplied 15 digs and three ace serves.

Hall needed three sets to down the Mendota Spikers, 25-14, 11-25, 25-21 in a Three Rivers Conference volleyball battle on Sept. 28 at Spring Valley.

Setchell led the net attack with 10 kills, while Baird and Brant added eight kills apiece. Lauren Martin topped the team with 26 digs, Delao led with 15 assists and Katie Jenner added 12 assists.

The Spikers got back on the winning track with a 25-15, 23-25, 25-17 decision over St. Bede in Three Rivers Conference action on Sept. 30 at the MHS gym.

Setchell and Brant sparked the offensive attack with 11 kills apiece. They were set up by Jenner (18 assists) and Delao (16 assists). Buettner delivered three ace serves, while Lauren Martin provided 23 digs and Paige Manning helped out with 14 digs.

Mendota improved to 15-8 overall and 6-3 in league matches.
