The Mendota Spikers won one of three matches and finished in fourth place in the Big Northern Conference Volleyball Tournament. The Spikers concluded the season with a 10-7 record.

Spikers finish 4th in BNC tourney

The Mendota Spikers won one of three matches and finished in fourth place in the Big Northern Conference Volleyball Tournament. The Spikers concluded the season with a 10-7 record.

Mendota opened the tournament with a 25-20, 8-25, 25-19 decision over Genoa-Kingston on April 19 at Genoa.

Jaelyn Fitzgerald was a force at the net with 11 kills and seven blocks. Ella Massey jump-started the offense with 23 assists. Lauren Martin and Paige Manning were also clicking on offense as each had six kills. Pacing the defense was Jenna O’Donnell with 20 digs, followed by Martin with 14 and Massey with 11.

Rock Falls and Mendota hooked up in a tight semifinal-round contest and the Lady Rockets prevailed, 25-21, 25-21, on April 21 at Rock Falls.

Fitzgerald mashed eight kills to lead the way, while Massey had 15 assists and O’Donnell collected four ace serves. O’Donnell also led with 10 digs and Martin added eight.

Oregon defeated Mendota, 25-16, 25-19, in the third-place match on April 22 at Oregon.

Fitzgerald recorded eight kills, O’Donnell had 10 digs, and Massey picked up eight digs and 10 assists.

Rockford Lutheran claimed the conference tournament title with a victory over Rock Falls in the championship match.
