Spikers fall short against 3 opponents

Indian Creek posted a 25-21, 25-23 win over Mendota in varsity volleyball action on Sept. 23 at Shabbona.

Laylie Denault had seven kills and six digs, while Ella Martin collected 13 assists.

Kewanee defeated the Spikers, 25-13, 25-20 in a Three Rivers Conference match on Sept. 24 at the MHS gym.

The Boilers jumped out to an 11-0 lead in the second set and closed to within two points (20-18) before Kewanee closed out the match.

Denault hammered nine kills, while Ella Coss and Elaina Reddin had four kills apiece. Martin paced the squad with eight assists and Ava Eddy provided 12 digs.

Mendota hosted Bureau Valley on Sept. 26 and the Storm emerged with a 25-16, 25-19 decision.

The first set was tied 3-3 and then the visitors went on a 9-0 scoring binge to seal the set.

Denault led the net attack with seven kills and Martin came away with nine assists. Zariah Escatel paced the Spikers with four points and six digs.

Mendota is 3-12 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
