BYRON – Pamela Jane (Hough) Spanier, 70, of Byron, passed away peacefully with her loving husband and sister by her side on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, at her home in Byron.

BYRON – Pamela Jane (Hough) Spanier, 70, of Byron, passed away peacefully with her loving husband and sister by her side on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, at her home in Byron.

She was cremated. A visitation for friends and family has been scheduled for Friday, Jan. 31, 2025, between the hours of 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church of Byron. Immediately following the visitation, a memorial mass will take place in her honor at 3 p.m. with Father Richard Rosinski presiding at St. Mary Catholic Church of Byron. She will be laid to rest at Walnut Hill Cemetery of Council Bluffs, Iowa, at a later date.

She was born July 17, 1954, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Donald and Wanda (Woods) Hough. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1972. She went on to obtain her bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Iowa State University. She married the love of her life, Robert Spanier, at St. Edwards Church of Rockford, on Sept. 1, 1986.

She is survived and missed dearly by her loving husband Robert Spanier of Byron; sister ,Teri Hough of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brothers, Donald (Ana) Hough Jr. of San Diego, Calif., Roger (Marilyn) Hough of Indian Land, S.C., John (Juli) Hough of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister-in-law, Gloria Mannino (Hough) of Dallas, Texas; brother-in-law, Joe (Diane) Spanier of Mendota; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Wanda; brother, Richard Hough; brothers-in-law, James Spanier and John Spanier; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Spanier) Neff and Bernice Spanier.

Pamela enjoyed being part of the Byron and Stillman Valley Library Book Clubs and participating in the Byron Library crafting classes. She had also been a member of the Byron Chapter of the Red Hat Ladies. She loved to travel the United States and abroad with her husband, visiting family and friends, and finding breweries along the way to enjoy. The two would spend time at their cabin in Breezy Point, Minn., enjoying family visiting and friends they had met in the area.
