MENDOTA – The Mendota Spikers had their season come to an end in the first round of the Mendota Class 2A Regional on Oct. 27 at the MHS gym. Oregon avenged an earlier-season loss to Mendota with a hard-fought 24-26, 25-21, 26-24 win in the regional. The Spikers had beaten Oregon in three sets on Sept. 4 in the Oregon Tournament.
Marah Setchell led the net attack with nine kills and three blocks. Meredith McConville also had three blocks and Bailey Baird hammered eight kills. Lauren Martin topped the club with four aces serves and 37 digs, Kya Delao collected 13 digs and 12 assists, and Katie Jenner added 10 assists.
Mendota finished the season with a 21-15 record.
The regional began with Stillman Valley taking out Sandwich 25-16, 20-25, 25-16 on Oct. 25. Rockford Lutheran eliminated Stillman Valley 25-11, 25-11 in the match prior to Mendota-Oregon. In the championship on Oct. 28, Lutheran disposed of Oregon 25-17, 25-19 to advance to the sectional.
