POPLAR GROVE – The Mendota Trojans were roughed up by North Boone, 49-7, in the spring football season opener on March 26 at Poplar Grove.

North Boone struck quickly with three touchdowns in the opening stanza. They came on passes of 64, 25 and 7 yards from quarterback Logan Emanuel.

The Trojans got on the board at the 4:16 mark of the second quarter on a 5-yard TD run by quarterback Ted Landgraf, followed by an Emilio Perez extra-point kick.

But that proved to be the only time Mendota got in the end zone, while the Vikings added two more scores before halftime to take a 34-7 lead to intermission.

North Boone finalized the scoring in the third frame on touchdown strikes of 20 and 13 yards from Emanuel, who ended up completing 13 of 19 passes for 215 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran in for a score.

Mendota generated 157 yards of offense compared to 342 for North Boone. Landgraf rushed 15 times for 55 yards and he threw for 53 yards with seven completions. The Vikings intercepted four of his passes.
