MOLINE – The Illinois Associated Press Class 1A and Class 2A All-State girls' basketball teams have been named as voted on by a statewide panel of sports writers and broadcasters and compiled by All-State chair Steve Tappa.

Mendota High School junior Amellia Bromenschenkel was selected second-team all-state in Class 2A. She was the top vote-getter on the second team and missed making the first team by two votes. For the season, Bromenschenkel averaged 25.7 points per game and 11.8 rebounds per contest.

“It’s hard to imagine there were five better girls this season than Amellia,” said Mendota head coach John Hansen. “The first team must be loaded. It’s an awesome accomplishment for the hardest working and most driven kid I’ve ever met.”

Also named to the second team was Winnebago sophomore Miyah Brown.

The Class 1A second team was headed by Amboy High School junior Abi Payne. She was the top vote-getter on the second team and was 16 votes from making the first team. Payne’s teammate and classmate, Mallory Powers, was an honorable mention all-state selection.

Players received five points for a first-team vote and three points for a second-team vote. Each voter picked a five-player first team and five-player second team in each class. A player must have been named on two ballots to receive honorable mention. All media members in the state were eligible to nominate and vote for players. Nobody earned unanimous selection in either class. There were 26 voters in 1A and 27 in 2A. There was a voting tie for the final first team spot in 1A.
