DIXON – Mendota High School bowler Paxton Bauer is headed to the IHSA Boys’ State Bowling Tournament after qualifying out of the Oregon Sectional on Jan. 25. The sectional was held at the Plum Hollow Family Center in Dixon.
The top five individual bowlers not on a qualifying team earn a berth in the state tournament. Bauer finished in third place among those top five individuals and was fourth overall.
The Mendota junior had a 224.8 average over six games, with a high game of 287. His six-game series total was 1349.
Bauer was just 12 pins off the pace of the individual sectional champion, Wyatt Miller of Dixon, who had a 226.8 average, a high game of 277 and a six-game series of 1361.
Bauer’s teammate, Alex Holland, also participated in the sectional but did not advance to the state tournament. He had a 198 average, a 217 high game and an 1188 series.
The top four teams in the sectional will advance to the state tournament. They are Machesney Park Harlem with a score of 6264, Dixon at 6197, Oregon at 6105 and Huntley at 6075.
The IHSA Boys’ State Bowling Tournament will take place on Friday, Jan. 31 and Saturday, Feb. 1 at St. Clair Bowl in O’Fallon.
