MENDOTA – Six outstanding Mendota High School boys and girls have been selected to attend the Annual Premier Boys State and the Illini Girls State held at Eastern Illinois University in June. The programs, sponsored by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, are designed to teach young men about voting and the election process in a democratic society and to teach young women to understand and appreciate their roles as United States citizens.
Mendota High School students attending Boys State include: Spencer Kain, son of Casey and Krysten Kain of West Brooklyn, sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary Post 4079; Sebastian Carlos, son of Rosa Escatel and Lauro Carlos of Mendota, sponsored by the Mendota Lions Club; and Carlos Toribio, son of Adriana DeLeon of Mendota, sponsored by the Mendota Elks Lodge.
Mendota High School students attending Girls State include: Talia White, daughter of Michelle Shaver of Mendota and Errol White Jr. of LaSalle, sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary Post 4079; Hannah Kunz, daughter of Matt and Stephanie Kunz of Mendota, sponsored by the Mendota Lions Club; and Ella Lewis, daughter of Julie Lewis of Mendota, sponsored by the Mendota Elks Lodge.
Over 750 eleventh grade boys and approximately 600 eleventh grade girls from around the state will attend the week-long leadership seminar.
