MENDOTA - Mendota High School will hold their annual Awards and Scholarship Assembly on Wednesday, May 5 at 8:05 a.m. Due to restrictions on seating, only seniors, presenters and senior parents will be offered seats. The event will also be streamed online for parents to watch.

• Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is May 3 to 7.
• On Friday, May 14, a Bilingual Parent Advisory Council parent night titled “Educar...Es Empoderar” will be held from 7 to 9 p.m.
• A ticket-only Choir Concert will take place on Sunday, May 16 at 4 p.m.
• The last day of attendance for MHS seniors is May 21.
• Graduation will be held on Saturday, May 29 at 1 p.m.
• Semester exams will be given on June 2, 3 and 4.
• Summer school will begin the week of June 7 with band, speech, credit retrieval, and driver’s education.

Summer School

Summer school offerings at MHS will be different this year to incorporate additional learning renewal needs caused by the pandemic. The traditional goals are driver’s education, credit retrieval, and an incoming 9th grade Bridges Program. During the extended school year, MHS will also incorporate a diagnostic system to develop tools to provide a multi-tiered approach to tailor help for students during the school year.

To develop the most efficient summer school format, discussions will include in-person, hybrid, and eligible students. (Driver’s education requires in-person classroom instruction as well as behind-the-wheel.) The list of teachers is longer this year based on student numbers and summer school structure. Some teachers may be needed in an hourly-tutoring format while others provide instruction and grant credit as the teacher of record. Due to learning renewal needs, it is important to have high-impact tutoring during summer school and the extended school year.

Teachers approved for summer school include: Driver’s Education-Brock Zinke, Heath Raley, Aaron Sester, Mary Stephenitch, Robb Nunn; Credit Retrieval and/or Bridges Program-Mel Sallee, Alisa Stewart, Veronica Becker, Kristi Barajas, Nicole Cromwell and Mazelle Martin.
