KEWANEE – Five first-place finishes helped the Mendota girls’ track team to third place in the team standings in a five-team meet at Kewanee on April 3.
Mariyah Elam was part of four of the winning efforts for the Lady Trojans. She captured individual firsts in the 100-meter hurdles (16.95), the high jump (5-4) and the triple jump (33-2), while she also ran a leg of the winning 4x200-meter relay team (1:58.65). The other three relay runners were Aby Buettner, Kate Strouss and Alexa Carlos.
Mendota’s other first-place finish was by Buettner in the long jump at 16-2.
Stark County claimed the top spot in the team standings with 116.5 points, followed by Kewanee with 102.5 and Mendota with 75. Farmington (45) and Galva (7) also participated.
