MENDOTA – The Mendota Lions Club has announced the Mendota High School students from the 2019-20 school year that were invited to its annual 2020 Honor Banquet. The students are recognized for their outstanding academic achievement. This year’s banquet was not held due to the pandemic health crisis.

Mendota Lions Club recognizes MHS students for academic excellence

MENDOTA – The Mendota Lions Club has announced the Mendota High School students from the 2019-20 school year that were invited to its annual 2020 Honor Banquet. The students are recognized for their outstanding academic achievement. This year’s banquet was not held due to the pandemic health crisis.

Freshman students being honored are William Bentley, Jamie Dooley, Isabelle Escatel, Alexis Finley, Abby Kunz, Neal Linden, Karli Miars and Emma Schultz.

Bentley is the son of Ben and Sharlene Bentley. He is a member of the MHS Drumline where he plays cymbals. He is also a member of the percussion section of concert band and has performed with MHS percussion ensemble. 

Dooley is the daughter of Daniel and EmLee Dooley of West Brooklyn. During Dooley’s first year at MHS, she was a member of the cross country and track and field teams.

Escatel is the daughter of Isidro and Carrie Escatel. While at MHS, she has been a member of the volleyball and bowling teams. She is also a member of the math team and Academic Challenge.

Finley is the daughter of Adam and Carrie Finley. She is a member of band and was a member of the tennis team.

Kunz is the daughter of Matt and Stephanie Kunz. She is a member of band, the math team and was a cheerleader for both football and basketball.

Linden is the son of Maureen Linden. While at MHS, Neal has been a member of the football and baseball teams and a member of band and jazz band.

Miars is the daughter of Darrell and Jennifer Weber. While at MHS, she has been a member of the bowling team, marching band and concert band. She is a member of the spring musical cast and attended solo and ensemble for both band and choir.

Schultz is the daughter of Ryan and Jamie Schultz. During her first year at MHS, she was a member of the volleyball and softball teams.

Sophomore students being recognized are Faith Anderson, Elly Buettner, Vanessa Escatel, Paige Manning, Maya Martin, Elizabeth Schilling, Andrew Stamberger and Allison Stewart.

Anderson is the daughter of Mike and Kara Anderson. She has been active in Madrigals, choir, show choir, and the fall and spring plays. She was selected for the BNC choir and the ILMEA district junior mixed chorus. She received six first-place ratings at the 2019 solo & ensemble contest and earned best of the day. She is also a member of Academic Challenge and was awarded honor roll and received an invitation to the Academic Incentive breakfast for the second year.

Buettner is the daughter of Doug and Allison Buettner. She has been involved in volleyball, student council, math team, Spanish Club and is a principal’s office worker.  She was awarded honor roll and earned her second academic award.

Escatel is the daughter of Panfilo and Vicky Escatel. This year at MHS, she was a member of the soccer team and is in the Spanish Club. She is a principal’s office worker and spends her eighth period assisting the science department as a lab technician. This is her second invitation to the Academic Incentive breakfast for her honor roll achievement.

Manning is the daughter of Steve and Valerie Manning. She has been active in volleyball, basketball, and softball, where she received BNC Honorable Mention. Manning works as a principal’s office worker and is a member of Scholastic Bowl, Academic Challenge, Spanish Club and math team. She earned honor roll and earned her second academic award.

Martin is the daughter of Jason and Lisa Martin. She has been a member of the volleyball team, serving as captain, and a member of the basketball team. She has been active in Madrigals, Show Choir, math team, Scholastic Bowl, Interact Club, Drama Club and is a member of Student Council. Martin was a freshman Homecoming Attendant and earned her second invitation to the Academic Incentive breakfast for her honor roll achievement.

Schillinger is the daughter of Jeff Schillinger and the late Cathy Schillinger. She has been a member of the band and FFA where she is the FFA office reporter and holds the FFA Greenhand Degree. She has also earned a black belt in Martial Arts. This year, Schillinger earned her second invitation to the Academic Incentive breakfast for her honor roll achievement.

Stamberger is the son of Jayson and Rebecca Stamberger. He has been active in cross country (earning MVP in 2018 and received the Captain’s award this year), tennis, band, marching band, and MHS tech team. He is a member of choir, show choir and is involved in the spring musical.  He is a member of FFA where he earned a 2019 FFA Freshman Scholarship Award and was FFA chair for Strengthening Agriculture.  He also received fifth place in FFA Section 7 Agriculture Mechanics. Stamberger attended NIU Huskie Hack and was a U of I SAIL computer science participant. He is a member of Zion ZEBRAS youth group and attended the Youthworks Mission Trip. This is his second year to receive an invitation to the Academic Incentive breakfast for his high honor roll achievement.

Stewart is the daughter of Jason and Cheryl Stewart. She is a member of math team, Academic Challenge, Spanish Club and is an MHS cheerleader. She was awarded honor roll and received her second invitation to the Academic Incentive breakfast.

Junior students honored are Amanda Barrett, Amellia Bromenschenkel, Lily Linden, Ella Massey and Madi Mikolasek.

Barrett is the daughter of Jeff Barrett. This year she has been a member of the math team, Scholastic Bowl, Academic Challenge and Spanish Club. She is a member of National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society and serves as a principal’s office worker. Barrett has received honor roll and received her third invitation to the Academic Incentive breakfast for her accomplishments.

Bromenschenkel is the daughter of Chad and Debi Bromenschenkel. She has been involved in volleyball, basketball, and soccer. She was first-team all-conference in basketball as well as IBCA All-State Basketball Team and was awarded Area Basketball Player of the Year. She serves as a principal’s office worker, is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society and Academic Challenge. She was awarded honor roll and has earned her third invitation to the Academic Incentive breakfast.

Linden is the daughter of Maureen Linden. During her junior year, she has been involved in pep and marching band, choir, All-State Chorus, show choir, woodwind choir for Madrigals, and was a crew member for the fall play. Linden is a member of Interact Club, Academic Challenge and the cross country team. She is a member of National Honor Society and was awarded honor roll for all three years at MHS.

Massey is the daughter of Chad and Melinda Massey. She is a member of the track team and the volleyball team where she is a three-year varsity starter, was a captain this year and was first-team all-conference and second-team all-area in both 2018 and 2019. She is a member of Student Council, Spanish Club, Academic Challenge, math team, served on the Homecoming and Prom committees and attended TEC. She was inducted into the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. Massey was Homecoming attendant in 2017 and 2018 and earned her third invitation to the Academic Incentive breakfast.

Mikolasek is the daughter of Ray and Terri Mikolasek. During her junior year, she has been a member of the volleyball team, Student Council and math team, where she earned second place in the calculator team competition. She is a member of Academic Challenge, earning second place in Physics. She is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. Mikolasek earned honor roll and received her third invitation to the Academic Incentive breakfast.

Senior students being honored are Hannah Ambler, Noah DeLong and Sean Dullard.

Ambler is the daughter of Carl and Susan Ambler. She is active in band; serving as band president, tennis, basketball and cheer. She is a member of the math team and National Honor Society; serving as president, student council, Interact Club, is a delegate to ALA Illini Girls State, adapted Physical Education Leader and served on the Homecoming and Prom committees. She attended TEC and was an Illinois Leadership Seminar Attendee in 2018. Ambler is an Illinois State Scholar and received the DAR Good Citizenship Award and the John Orth Principal’s award. She was awarded for seven semesters on the honor roll.

DeLong is the son of Michael and Janet DeLong. He has been a member of the golf, basketball, cross country, and tennis teams and participated in band, choir; serving as president, Madrigals, and Academic Challenge. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society and an IMEA All-State chorus member.  DeLong was crowned Homecoming King this fall. He received the LaSalle Regional Office of Education Student Excellence Award, the John Orth Principal’s award and is an Illinois State Scholar. He is a drummer for First Baptist Church of LaMoille Praise Band, helps with LaMoille Community Bible School, assisted in fundraising and volunteers for the local PADS shelter. He has been awarded for seven semesters on the honor roll, and this is his fourth year to be invited to the Lions Honor Banquet.

Dullard is the son of Steve and Deb Dullard. While at Mendota High School, he has been involved in band, jazz band, Drumline, percussion section leader and was a Drama Dept. tech crew member. He was chosen for Augustana College’s Honor Band. He is a member of National Honor Society, WYSE Academic Team, and is a Boy Scout of America Life Scout. Dullard attended Illinois Premier Boys State and is an Illinois State Scholar. He received second place in the Spanish Regional Cultural Contest, second place at the 2018 WYSE Academic Challenge, and an MHS Pulley commendation. He received Order of the Arrow, Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout, BSA. This is his fourth year to be invited to the MHS Academic Honors breakfast and Lions Honor Banquet.
