MENDOTA - Matthew “Matt” C. Untz, 50, of Mendota, passed away Dec. 16, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
A memorial Mass will be held at Holy Cross Church, Mendota next summer with time and date announced. Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota is assisting the family.
Matt was born Aug. 18, 1971 in Mendota to Edward and Sharon (Rumsey) Untz.
Survivors include his parents of Mendota; one sister, Jennifer (Kevin) Newell of Mendota; one brother, Ryan Untz of Albany; a nephew, Griffin Newell of Mendota; girlfriend, Liz Grenda of LaSalle; his dog, Rudy; godparents, Sister Jeanne d'Arc Untz and Michael Rumsey; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Marzita Rumsey and his paternal grandparents Joseph and Leona Untz.
Matt attended Holy Cross Grade School and graduated from St. Bede High School in 1989. He started his semi truck driving career in 1992 with Schneider National then Johnson Trucking. Later he owned and operated Untz Trucking, leasing to RH Boelk Truck Lines. He was most proud of his 23-year accident free record. He enjoyed hunting, camping, kayaking, traveling, off road adventures, motorcycles, corvettes, woodworking, and most recently spending time with his dog Rudy.
