MENDOTA – Lynn Louise (Dunlap) Matheis, 70, of Mendota, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, at Allure Care Nursing Home, Mendota, in OSF Hospice Care, and further compromised by Covid-19 in early December.
No service will be held. There will be a private graveside service at a later date. Horner-Merritt Funeral Home is assisting with cremation.
She was born Oct. 22, 1954, in Shenandoah, Iowa, to Dan L. and Ruth (Ashelford) Dunlap, who soon thereafter moved to LaSalle County, Illinois, and to Mendota in 1963. Lynn married Michael V. Matheis of Chicago, on Aug. 4, 1979, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota.
Lynn is survived by her mother, Ruth L. Dunlap of Mendota; her sisters, Mary L. Orwig of Milan, Robin L. Austin of Earlville and Dawn L. Henning of Bedford Texas; nieces and nephew, Cassandra Orwig, Emily Henning and Adam Henning; and four cousins.
Lynn and her husband lived in the Chicago suburbs and worked for a model railroad equipment company and distributor, then lived in Mendota the past 20 years. Michael V. Matheis died in 2011 in Mendota. They had no children. They both enjoyed the card game of Magic The Gathering.
Lynn was confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mendota, and she was a graduate of Mendota High School in 1972 where she was named an Illinois State Scholar. She played clarinet in Mendota school bands and Augustana College, Rock Island, from which she was graduated in 1976 with a major in geology. She loved music and singing all her life. Lynn was a voracious reader all her life. She also enjoyed science fiction.
