L. Holland to bowl in sectional

STERLING - Mendota High School bowler Lauren Holland kept her season alive after she advanced out of the Sterling Girls’ Bowling Regional on Feb. 3.

The MHS junior rolled a six-game series of 1099, which was among the top 10 scores of bowlers not on a sectional qualifying team, thus earning her a spot in the sectional round. Her score was third-best among those qualifiers. Holland had games of 152, 228, 206, 136, 196 and 181.

Two other Mendota girls participated in the regional but did not have high enough scores to advance. Brisa Nunez had games of 105, 150, 118, 119, 120 and 184 for a 796 series. Madison Sproston compiled games of 123, 72, 136, 102, 108 and 112 for a 653 series.

The top four advancing teams were LaSalle-Peru (5875), Sterling (5297), East Moline United (5109) and Moline (5074).

The individual regional champion was Sarah Doughty of Sterling with a 1369 series.

Holland will participate in the Sycamore Sectional on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 9 a.m. at Mardi Gras Lanes.
