JV Trojans suffer 4 losses in Plano Classic

PLANO – Mendota lost all four games and finished in 16th place in the 16-team Plano Junior Varsity Christmas Classic held Dec. 27-30.
The Trojans started out with a 51-24 loss to Yorkville Christian on Dec. 27. Mendota fell behind 19-4 after the opening stanza and never recovered. The count was 31-10 at intermission.
Kaleb Kleckner led the Trojans with six points and Owen Aughenbaugh contributed four markers.

More offensive woes by the Trojans led to a 45-16 setback to Aurora Marion in round two on Dec. 28. Mendota scored five points or less in each quarter. Marmion led 34-7 at the half.
Aughenbaugh’s five points topped the Trojan scoring chart.

Newark posted a 43-33 triumph over Mendota in the third round on Dec. 29. The Trojans trailed 17-13 at the break and then were outscored by six points in the second half.
Cale Strouss paced Mendota with seven points, followed by Aughenbaugh, Cameron Kelly and Mason Koch with six tallies apiece.

Mendota concluded the tournament with a 50-31 loss to Morris in the 15th-place contest on Dec. 30. The Trojans were within striking distance at the half, trailing 24-17, but Morris scored 26 second-half points compared to 14 for Mendota.
Strouss dropped in 10 points to lead the offense, while Koch chipped in with five.
