History & restoration of abandoned LaSalle County cemetery to be discussed

Posted

OTTAWA – The LaSalle County Genealogy Guild will host Friends of the Dayton Bluffs at their next meeting on Saturday, March 21. The Friends of the Dayton Bluffs will discuss how they researched the history of an abandoned cemetery adjacent to the Dayton Bluffs Preserve in Ottawa and then restored the cemetery.

Dr. Manigold and volunteers from Friends of the Dayton Bluffs will explain the steps that were taken to get permission from the State of Illinois for the restoration and talk about the classes they took to learn restoration techniques. After three years of work, the restoration was completed last September. The program will be presented along with photographs of the restoration process and the results of their investigations.

The meeting will take place at the guild library, 115 Glover St., Ottawa beginning at 1 p.m. Meetings are open to the public. Everyone is welcome.
