Girls' soccer gets past two opponents

The Mendota varsity girls’ soccer team kept up its winning ways with a 5-2 verdict over LaSalle-Peru on March 31 at LaSalle.

Crystal Garcia booted in three goals and added two assists to pace the Lady Trojans. Noemi Arteaga and Elaina Reddin picked up one goal apiece, while Ella Coss delivered a pair of assists.

Ariana Sanchez had four goalie saves.

Coal City blanked the Lady Trojans, 8-0, on April 1 at Coal City.

Sanchez had 17 saves in goal.

Mendota posted a thrilling 2-1 victory at Princeton on April 3.

With the game tied at 1-1 with six minutes left, Mendota’s Kaley Siemer sent a perfect through pass to Garcia, who sent it past the Princeton goalie for what proved to be the winning goal.

Garcia also scored the other Lady Trojan goal, while Sanchez stopped 12 shots in goal.

Mendota’s season record stands at 5-2.
