MENDOTA – Rockridge set the tone early with a five-run first inning and went on to top Mendota, 13-3, in varsity baseball action on May 2 at the MHS diamond. The game was stopped in the fifth by the 10-run rule.

After the first-inning uprising, the Rockets scored a single run in the second and then pushed across another five tallies in the third to move out to an 11-0 lead.

The Trojans got on the board with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third. Collin Coss led off with a single and eventually scored on a passed ball. Two batters later Braiden Freeman singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Evan McPheeters.

The two teams completed their scoring in the fourth with Rockridge scoring twice and Mendota once. The Trojans scored when Brody Hartt led off with a double and later raced home on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Esten Otero.

Mendota committed eight errors in the contest which resulted in eight of Rockridge’s runs being unearned.

McPheeters got the ball to start the game for the Trojans and worked two innings. Five of the eight runs he allowed were earned, while Otero came on in relief and gave up five runs, none of which were earned.

Mendota (7-11-1) managed just four hits, including doubles by Hartt and Dane Doyle. Rockridge totaled seven safeties.
