ERIE – Erie-Prophetstown downed the Mendota freshman-sophomore football team, 30-14, on Aug. 30 at Erie.
E-P opened up a 16-0 lead after the opening stanza on TD runs of 8 and 3 yards and a pair of successful two-point conversions.
The Trojans dented the scoreboard at the 3:18 mark of the second quarter when Keith Grim darted into the end zone from 5 yards out, followed by a Damien Medina extra-point kick.
The Panthers managed to stretch their lead out to 24-7with just 44 seconds left before the half on a 14-yard touchdown run and a two-point run.
Each team exchanged scores in the fourth period. Grim broke the goal line from 1 yard out early in the quarter and Medina booted the extra point.
E-P wrapped up the scoring on a 28-yard TD scamper.
Mendota finished with 163 total yards compared to 285 for E-P. All but 13 of the Trojans’ yards were on the ground. Grim had 49 yards on 10 attempts, Domenic Richey gained 43 yards on 10 carries and Justin Randolph picked up 35 yards in 10 totes.
