DURANGO, Colo. - Elizabeth “Liz” (Bulfer) Kuehl, 83, formerly of Sublette, received her angel wings peacefully on July 8, 2021 at Mercy Regional Hospice Center in Durango, Colo.
Liz was born Oct. 17, 1937 in Rockford and grew up in Sublette. She married Donald Roger Kuehl on Feb. 7, 1959. He preceded her in death in 2013.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice Lyn Wood; three grandchildren/spouses, Chris (Erin), Nicole (Markus) and Carley (Jory); five great-granddaughters, Ava, Nadia, Aleyna, Corliss and Parker; two new great-grandbabies arriving in late spring/summer 2022; one cousin, Ellen (Bulfer) Jones; her brother and sister-in-law, Dean and Mary Kuehl; and five nieces and nephews and their families.
After their marriage, Liz and Don moved to Albuquerque, N.M. where Don worked at Sandia National Laboratories. After raising their two children, Liz too worked at Sandia National Laboratories until she and Don retired in 1994. Liz and Don enjoyed their retirement at their vacation home at Vallecito Lake, Bayfield, Colo. It was their pride and joy having put in much love, unsurmountable work and gardening into the home to make it their oasis.
Liz was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Susan Lyn in 1960; her daughter-in-law, Katherine Dell'angela-Kuehl in 1999; her son, Greg Kuehl in 2010; and her loving husband in 2013.
Even with those life altering events, Liz kept going strong and never wavered in her dedication to her family, extended family, and friends. She will be remembered for her beauty and keen eye for fashion, her endless array of baked creations, and her kind and generous nature, which brought much joy, faith and love to all.
A celebration of life is planned for the spring of 2022 in order for family and friends to be available to participate. Details will be announced privately at a later date.
