UW-Whitewater dean's list
WHITEWATER, Wis. - Several area students were named to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater dean’s list for the 2020 spring semester. They include Mia Artman and Jenna Stanford, both of Mendota; and Holly Marsh and Emily Schmitt, both of Earlville.
To be included on the dean’s list, students demonstrated their academic abilities by receiving a grade point average of 3.4 or above in a single semester.
“Dean’s list honorees have shown an outstanding dedication to their academic pursuits - from their work in the classroom to notable projects in our research laboratories and out in the field,” said interim Provost Greg Cook. “These hardworking students can take pride in the fact that they are living the Warhawk values of learning and academic excellence. They are deserving of our congratulations.”
About 12,400 students are currently enrolled at the university’s Whitewater and Rock County campuses. Of those, the registrar’s office reported that 4,264 students were selected for the spring dean’s list.
UK dean’s list
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Elle Bottom of Mendota, a journalism major, was among a record number of students who made the University of Kentucky dean’s list for the spring 2020 semester. A total of 9,705 students were recognized for their outstanding academic performance.
To be included on a dean’s list in one of the UK colleges, a student must earn a grade point average of 3.6 or higher and must have earned 12 credits or more in that semester, excluding credits earned in pass-fail classes. Some UK colleges require a 3.5 GPA to make the dean’s list.
Monmouth dean’s list
MONMOUTH - Two local students, Rebecca Monica of Mendota and Joshua Gross of LaMoille, were named to the Monmouth College dean’s list for the spring 2020 semester. To be included on the list, students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the semester while taking at least 3.0 credit hours.
Ohio University graduation, dean's list
ATHENS, Ohio - Benjamin Marsh of Earlville graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Sport Management. He was among more than 5,000 students who graduated with bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degrees from Ohio University for the spring 2020 semester.
Marsh was also named to the Ohio University spring dean’s list. He was one of more than 9,500 students who qualified for the dean’s list at the main and regional campuses.
OHIO students must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average for the semester with classes totaling at least 15 hours, 12 of which are taken for letter grades, to achieve this distinction.
University of Iowa dean’s list
IOWA CITY, Iowa - Two local students, Lukas Brandner of Mendota and Katherine Anderson of LaMoille were among more than 8,500 undergraduate students at the University of Iowa named to the dean’s list for the 2020 spring semester.
To be included on the dean’s list, students in the College of Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher in nine semester hours (spring 2020) or more of UI graded coursework during the semester and have no semester hours of “incomplete” or “no grade reported” during that semester. Courses offered on a satisfactory/unsatisfactory or pass/non-pass basis do not count toward graded credit for inclusion on the dean’s list.
Brandner is a Biomedical Engineering major in the College of Engineering. Anderson is an English and Creative Writing major in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Iowa State graduation
AMES, Iowa - A virtual commencement ceremony was held this spring at Iowa State University to honor the nearly 5,100 graduates who earned degrees. Among the graduates in the Class of 2020 was Gregory Bator of Mendota who earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Studies.
Iowa Stat’s traditional on-campus celebrations were moved online as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. University leaders recorded three commencement ceremonies to honor graduates.
NIU dean’s list
DEKALB - Northern Illinois University has announced their spring 2020 dean’s list students. Local students included on the dean’s list are:
Mendota - Aylin Arellano, marketing major; A.J. Chaon, enterprise software major; Paxton Kennedy, economics major; Lillian Rodrigues, nursing major; and Katherine Wohrley, mathematics education major.
Compton - Joseph Gehant, electrical engineering major.
To earn this distinction, students must meet a minimum semester grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale in the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology or a minimum of 3.75 on a 4.0 scale in the colleges of Business, Education, Health and Human Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Visual and Performing Arts.
