MENDOTA - The Mendota City Council approved several requests and heard reports at its June 2 regular council meeting.

ALDERMANIC REPORTS

Alderman Jim Fitzpatrick presented two requests for the council’s consideration, both of which were approved. The first request was from the Mendota Elks Lodge for the use of Veterans Park for the annual Flag Day ceremony. This year’s event will be Saturday, June 14 at 7 p.m.

The other request was from Expressions Salon to block off three parking spaces in front of its place of business at 709 Illinois Ave. for its annual back-to-school free haircut event. This year’s date is Saturday, Aug. 2 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Alderwoman Vicki Johnson gave a reminder of three events put on by the Reimagine Mendota group, all of which raise money for the Pavilion on Main Street project. Food Truck Mania is held from 4-8 p.m. the second and fourth Monday of the month in the 800 block of Illinois Avenue through October. The Queen of Hearts raffle is held every Thursday at 7 p.m. at The Chalet Sports Bar on U.S. 52 north. A Live at the Lake event is scheduled for 5-10 p.m. Saturday, June 21 at the Mendota Civic Center featuring the music of Greenfield Station.

MAYOR’S REPORT

Mayor David Boelk put on record a personal conflict of interest declaration with the Mendota City Clerk and LaSalle County, stating he owns property within a TIF District in the city of Mendota.

Mayor Boelk stated more information will be gathered and an item put on the agenda of the next council meeting regarding several requests the city has received to allow golf carts and ATVs to operate on city streets.

OTHER ITEMS

Annie Short, city project manager, praised city workers for their efforts in getting the Mendota swimming pool operational for this summer season. She also recognized Nightengale’s Thrift Shop for again supplying funds to allow for free admission to all swimmers throughout the season.

Short added that a ribbon-cutting ceremony was recently held for the opening of the newly redesigned disc golf course at Lake Kakusha/Lake Mendota.

The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be Monday, June 16 at 5:30 p.m.
