City Council OKs renewal of insurance; burn pit open Jan. 8

MENDOTA – The Mendota City Council handled several items of business during its first meeting of 2022 on Jan. 3.

Alderman Jim Fitzpatrick announced that the city incinerator-burn pit will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 for anyone wanting to discard their Christmas tree.

Alderman John Holland presented information on health insurance renewals for city employees. The yearly premium for health insurance with BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois rose slightly by 1.62 percent for the renewal period beginning March 1, 2022. The total monthly premium will be $56,234, which is an increase of $997 per month over what the city is currently paying.

Holland added that the city vision insurance with VSP® Vision Care will decrease for the renewal period, while the dental premium will be unchanged.

Mayor David Boelk wished everyone a happy new year for 2022.

The next regular meeting of the Mendota City Council will be Monday, Jan. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
