Wixom's hole-in-one helps Trojans to win

Dixon edged the Mendota golfers by two strokes, 183-185, in a dual meet on Aug. 29 at the Mendota Golf Club.

Taylor Joyce had the low round for the Trojans with a 41. He was one stroke off the medalist pace of Dixon’s Jackson Jeffery. MHS’s Zeke Hessenberger also turned in a fine round of 43. Completing the Trojan team were Sam Becker (50), Mason Schuhler (51), Colton Scheppers (51) and Owen Wixom (57).

Mendota picked up a forfeit win in the junior varsity match. Two Trojans still played 9 holes with Tony Aughenbaugh shooting a 47 and Eli Otterbach carding a 48.

The rest of the Mendota golfers were divided into three teams and the Purple squad prevailed with a 238. The White shot a 247 and Gold ended at 263.

Purple team members were Tristan Joyce (54), Mateo Escatel (55), Luke Ross (62) and Noah DeLong (67).

Playing for the White team were Austin Robinson (48), Lane Howard (57), Aaron Reddin (68) and Blake Thompson (74).

Making up the Gold unit were Jack Beetz (54), John Buchanan (66), Kody Becket (68) and Shea Doughty (75).

Mendota pulled out a 182-185 triumph at Stillman Valley on Aug. 31.

Taylor Joyce paced the Trojans with a 42, while Becker was next with a 43. Wixom had the shot of the day, turning in a hole-in-one on the 140-yard par 3 #8 hole, which helped him to a 47 score. Completing the MHS lineup were Schuhler (50), Scheppers (51) and Hessenberger (52).

Reece Gatz of Stillman Valley was the medalist with a 40.

The Trojans also captured the junior varsity contest, 202-211.

Robinson’s 46 led all scorers. Next in for Mendota was Tristan Joyce with a 50, followed by Aughenbaugh (52), Beetz (54), Otterbach (55) and Howard (63).

Mendota made it a clean sweep by shooting a 153 to defeat the home team (176) in the freshman-sophomore meet. A best-ball format was played.

Teaming up for the Trojans were Ross and Escatel (45), Becket and DeLong (50), and Reddin and Thompson (58).
