CHARLESTON – Mendota senior Lydia Willis closed out her track career by competing in the IHSA Class 2A Girls’ State Track Meet held May 16-18 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Willis participated in the discus and shot put at state, but did not make it to the finals in either event. In the shot put, her best throw in the preliminaries was 33-9.25. Willis fouled in the discus and was eliminated from the competition.
At the conclusion of all sectionals last week, Willis had the fourth best discus throw in the state heading into the state meet.
As a sophomore in 2017, Willis finished 12th in the state in the discus.
