MENDOTA - William Frederick Politsch, 90, of Mendota passed away March 24, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 at the Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota. There will be no services. Private burial will be at a later date.

Bill was born Dec. 20, 1928 in LaSalle to Fred and Ruth (Hurst) Politsch. He married Shirley Alshouse on Aug. 15, 1958 at Perkins Grove Church, LaMoille.

Survivors include his wife of Mendota; one son, Roger (Lynette) Politsch of Sun City, Ariz.; four daughters, Gloria (John) Keen of Sugar Grove, Rhonda Politsch of Sublette, Sherri Politsch of Talladega, Ala. and Michelle (Jim) Vance of York, Pa.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one brother, Eugene Politsch of Mendota.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert Politsch.

Bill graduated from Mendota High School in 1946. Immediately after graduation he joined the U.S. Navy. After the Navy, he trained in electronics at Devry Technical Institute. He worked at Mendota Radio & Appliance, then L J Stephenitch & Sons (Ace Hardware) for 42 years until his retirement. He served his community for 60 years working with Civil Defense, then as director of Emergency Services Disaster Agency for the City of Mendota, retiring in December 2018.
