AMBOY - William C. “W.C.” Kessel, 85, of Amboy, died Nov. 7, 2017 at Dixon Healthcare and Rehab.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10 at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2035 Illinois Route 26, Dixon with Pastor David Andermann officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon with military graveside rites by the Amboy American Legion. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9 at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy and also on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church.
Bill was born June 28, 1932 in Amboy to William T. and Mildred (Conderman) Kessel. He married Joan Meyer in Sterling on Oct. 17, 1954.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Ann (Steve) Gronlund of Monroe Center; two sons, Dean Kessel of Dixon and Craig (Christine) Kessel of Amboy; six grandchildren, Eric (Maegan) Gronlund, Lisa (Mimmo) Moscato, Gregory Kessel, Jeremy Kessel, Cory (Danielle Jaso) Kessel and Danniale (Deryke) Gallacher; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Kessel, Makai King and Madison Gronlund; two sisters, Aleta (Fred) Faber of LaMoille and Betty Payne of Walnut; and one sister-in-law, Fran Kessel of Amboy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Bernard Kessel.
Bill was a lifelong farmer and he also worked at the Dixon Correctional Center for 18 years before retiring as a lieutenant. He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Dixon, the Amboy American Legion, the Lee County Farm Bureau, the Lee County 4-H Board and the Prairie Repose Cemetery Board.
