TRIUMPH - The Waltham Curling Club girls junior team was victorious at the Midwest Curling Association U18 Regional Playdowns held on Dec. 27.

The team, which includes Mae Hagenbuch, Genevieve Salander, Bella Hagenbuch and Liberty Salander, went undefeated in round robin competition and will represent the Midwest Curling Association (MCA) in the 2019 U18 Junior National Championship.

The Waltham boys junior team of Max Salander, Logan Brandner, Aaron Reddin, Mason Videgar and Dagen Setchell also attended the regional competition and came away in the runner-up position. They will be the U18 alternate boys team for the MCA.

The Midwest Curling Association covers all curling clubs in Illinois, Iowa and Missouri. To determine who would advance to represent the Midwest Curling Association at nationals, the teams from those three states played a round robin. The Waltham girls team will be among the 12 girls’ teams and 12 boys’ teams from the other regional competitions around the nation who will compete from March 12-17. The national competition will take place at the Chaska Curling Center in Chaska, Minn., which is currently the national training center for USA Curling.
