LA SALLE - “Playing with the Enemy: A Baseball Prodigy, World War II, and the Long Journey Home” is the title of a live virtual program to be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Hosted by the LaSalle Public Library, the free program is open to the public and will be presented virtually on Zoom.
Author Gary Moore will discuss his book, “Playing with the Enemy,” a biography about his father, Gene Moore. Filled with history and hope, Gene Moore’s life begins and ends in a small, downstate Illinois town but encompasses World War II North Africa, baseball and dreams of the Major League, a captured German U-boat and an uncommon and extraordinary friendship with “the enemy.”
Gary Moore, who lives in Bourbonnais, won the 2006 Military Writers Society of America Book of the Year for his acclaimed book. He has appeared on CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX, and has spoken to groups, both large and small, from coast to coast, and in Europe.
