MENDOTA – Members of the Mendota VFW Post 4079 Auxiliary met on Nov. 10 for the monthly business meeting.
Members voted to send a donation to the Women of the Moose to help with expenses of the senior citizen Christmas dinner that will be held in early December and to the Illinois Veteran’s Home at LaSalle for their Christmas party.
Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen programs are being judged at the local level and winners will be announced soon. Members approved the purchase of new podium books, sympathy and get-well cards and a new altar cloth. Lightning Bingo is going well on Friday nights and a deposit was given to the treasurer.
Four members attended the 9th District meeting in East Peoria on Oct. 28. Department President Susan Parrish was in attendance and spoke to the group.
Members were asked to provide several desserts for the meal on Veterans Day. The program was held Nov. 11 in Veterans Park and was well attended despite the cold weather.
The auxiliary still has members who owe their dues. Dues from 11 members was recently received, leaving 41 unpaid. Members can go online at MALTA to pay the dues or send them to the treasurer.
The next meeting is Saturday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. The next Steak Fry is Sat. Nov. 17 with coals ready by 5:30 p.m. Please RSVP for the steak fry.
