MENDOTA – Two wrestlers from the Mendota Mat Masters qualified for the state tournament after competing in the sectional the weekend of March 2. Both wrestlers finished in third place in their respective weight class.
Keith Grim won two of three matches in the 108-pound weight class to take third. He claimed a pin win and a forfeit win, and lost by pin. Angil Serrano also qualified for state after finishing third in the 215-pound division. He lost his only match, 2-1.
Garrett Connelly narrowly missed a berth in the state tournament after placing fourth at 108 pounds (pin win, pin loss, forfeit loss), while Ethan Escatel (58 pounds) and Greg Mann (130 pounds) did not place. Escatel lost his only match, 4-2, while Mann won by pin and lost by pin.
The state tournament will begin Friday, March 8 in Rockford.
