LaMOILLE – Mendota put together a strong fourth quarter to pull away for a 66-51 triumph over LaMoille in a nonconference varsity boys’ basketball game on Dec. 18 at LaMoille.
The contest was up for grabs through three quarters. The Trojans were down 15-14 after one quarter, but took a 33-29 lead to intermission. LaMoille chopped three points off the difference after three frames, but Mendota held the Lions to just three fourth-quarter points while scoring 17 of its own.
Eddie Perez led the Trojan offense with 20 points, while Chris Sandoval came off the bench to score 11. Joel Escatel and Emiliano Arteaga added nine points apiece. Cole Stremlau topped the club with five rebounds and Perez dished out eight assists.
Three LaMoille players hit double figures in scoring, led by Hunter Walzer and Luke Lovgren with 12 points apiece. Brady Becker supplied 10 points and a team-leading six rebounds, while Casen Cherry handed out four assists.
Each team shot 43 percent from field goal range. Mendota hit 60 percent of its free throws and handled 24 rebounds, while the Lions shot 75 percent from the stripe and grabbed 27 boards. Nine of Mendota’s 24 field goals came from beyond the three-point arc.
The Trojans are 3-10 on the season and LaMoille is 5-7.
