Rock Falls took advantage of wildness by Mendota pitchers to down the Trojans, 11-1, in a game called after five innings by the 10-run rule on April 28 at the MHS field. It was the season-opener for Mendota.
While three Mendota pitchers only allowed two hits, the Rockets benefited from 15 walks and two hit batsmen by those hurlers, as well as four errors committed by the Trojan defense.
Rock Falls took a 1-0 lead in the first and then added five more runs in the second, four in the third and one in the fourth. Mendota’s only tally came in the fourth on an RBI single by Connor Engel, one of two hits he collected in the game. John Gonzalez also had a pair of singles for the Trojans.
Krew Bond got the start on the mound for Mendota and took the loss. He gave way to Ted Landgraf in the second. Dominik Stamberger pitched a scoreless two innings for the Trojans.

The Trojans were beaten by the 10-run rule again, this time by Dixon, 15-5, on April 30 at Dixon. The Dukes scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the contest early.
Dixon held a 5-0 lead after two innings before Mendota got on the board with a pair of runs in the third. The Dukes added three more in the fourth and the Trojans put up a single tally in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Like the opener against Rock Falls, the pitching and defense hampered the Trojans. Mendota pitchers walked 10 batters and hit two, while the defense committed eight errors.
Gonzalez was the starting pitcher for MHS and went three innings. He allowed seven hits and four earned runs in taking the loss. Dylan Tornow, Derek Nanez and Emilio Perez followed on the hill.
The Trojans scratched out five hits, getting two singles and two RBI from Andres Castaneda and a single and a double from Bond. Of Dixon’s eight hits, seven were doubles and one was a triple.
