PLANO – Mendota concluded play in the Plano Christmas Classic by losing to Sandwich, 43-33, in the 13th-place game on Dec. 30.
The Trojans got off to a fast start with a 15-8 lead after the first quarter, but they scored just 18 more points over the final three frames. Sandwich took an 18-17 halftime lead and held a 31-27 margin heading to the fourth period. The Indians doubled up Mendota, 12-6, in the final stanza to win by double digits.
Krew Bond was the lone double figure scorer for the Trojans with 10 points. He also led with four steals. Emiliano Arteaga chipped in with eight points and Abraham Guzman added seven tallies. Alexis Quintana topped the rebounding chart with five, while Cole Stremlau collected four boards.
Both teams had trouble finding the basket as they each converted on 35 percent of their field goal attempts. Mendota was outrebounded, 30-19. Both teams committed 14 turnovers.
