Trojans close out track season; Carlos places 5th in 400m dash

GENESEO – The season came to a close for the Mendota boys’ track team after it competed in the Geneseo Class 2A Sectional on May 17.

The Trojans had top 10 finishes in four events. Sebastian Carlos turned in the best finish on the day with a fifth-place effort in the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.20. The freshman narrowly missed earning a trip to state in the event after just clocking in over the state qualifying time of 51.13.

The 4x400-meter relay team took seventh place with a time of 3:42.96. Carrying the baton for the Trojans were Mason Koch, Kody Chase, Anthony Kelson and Carlos.

Kelson placed in two other events. He was eighth in the 800-meter run at 2:07.47 and finished 10th in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:45.12.

Sterling dominated the action and won the team title with 116 points. Geneseo was a distant second with 87 points. Mendota scored two points.
