Trojan wrestlers drop meets to 5 opponents

Mendota wrestled on its home mat for the first time this season when it entertained three other schools on Jan. 11.

Sherrard won every bout and blanked the Trojans, 71-0.

Mendota picked up a pair of wins in a 54-10 loss to Oregon. Jose Hermosillo scored a 15-4 victory in the 138-pound weight class and JP Belmonte pinned his opponent in 2:27 at 170 pounds.

Sterling Newman came away with a 66-3 triumph over the Trojans. Hermosillo claimed a 9-5 decision for Mendota’s lone win.

Mendota lost both ends of a triangular meet at Erie-Prophetstown on Jan. 13.

The host school downed the Trojans, 66-12. Belmonte earned a pin win at the 2:36 mark of his 170-pound bout, while Lea Turner won by forfeit at 152 pounds.

Monmouth-Roseville upended Mendota, 48-12. Hermosillo pinned his opponent in 5:55 at 138 pounds and Turner claimed a forfeit victory at 152.

Mendota participated in the Kewanee Invitational on Jan. 15. Kailyn Jezewski took fifth place at 145 pounds and Hermosillo finished in sixth place at 132.
