The Mendota Trojan tennis team escaped with a 3-2 victory over Morris on April 26 at the MHS courts.

Cameron Phalen and Blake Stamberger won their singles matches, while the doubles team of Paco Romero and Christian Salinas picked up a win to push the Trojans over the top.

Singles: No. 1 – Cameron Phalen (Me) def. Carter (Mo), 4-6, 7-5 (10-6); No. 2 – Blake Stamberger (Me) def. Smyk (Mo), 6-4, 7-5

The Trojans were edged by Princeton, 3-2, on the Tigers’ home courts April 27.

Phalen and Stamberger cruised to victory in their singles matches, but Princeton managed to claim all three doubles matches.

Mendota finished third out of five teams in the Rochelle Invitational on April 29. Princeton won with 20 points, Dixon had 19 and the Trojans scored 17. Sterling Newman (10) and Rochelle (9) also competed.

Phalen took third place at number one singles with a 1-2 match record, while Stamberger rolled to four straight wins to claim the championship at number two singles.

In doubles, Romero and Salinas finished second in the number one bracket, Lewis and Rinaldo took fourth place at number two and the team of Perez-Cortez placed third at number three.
