STERLING – The Mendota boys’ tennis team ended its season at the Sterling Sectional on May 18.
In singles play, Mendota’s Preston Lewis was victorious over Ethan Partington of Sterling Newman in the first round, 6-4, 6-3. Lewis was then beaten in the second round, 6-0, 6-0, by Sterling’s Grant Bright.
Zach Rinaldo also played singles for the Trojans and lost his only match, 6-0, 6-1, to Kevin Zheng of Rochelle.
In doubles competition, the Mendota duo of Paco Romero and Favian Arteaga claimed a 6-3, 6-1 victory over a Princeton team in the opening round. In round two, Romero-Arteaga were eliminated from the tournament after a 6-1, 6-2 setback to a duo from Galesburg.
Mendota’s Aaron Brandner and Noah DeLong also teamed up in doubles play and were topped by a team from Geneseo, 6-1, 6-3.
