PRINCETON – It was a great start to the season for the Mendota varsity golf team as it beat out two other opponents in the season opener on Aug. 13 at Chapel Hill in Princeton.
The Trojans carded a 174 team score to nip Princeton by four strokes. Putnam County came in third with a 190 despite having the meet medalist – Ben Cyr with a 36.
Taylor Joyce turned in the low score for Mendota with a 41. Ethan Hanaman and Colton Scheppers were next with 43s, followed by Jack Beetz with a 47. Austin Robinson (50) and Noah DeLong (52) completed the lineup.
Princeton was able to pull out the junior varsity competition with a 212. Mendota had a 220 and Putnam County did not field a full team.
The top four scores for the Trojans belonged to Luke Ross (51), Shea Doughty (53), Tristan Joyce (54) and Liam McGann (62). Lane Howard (65) and Kevin Lewis (68) also competed.
